Proverbs 6:32-33
“The man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself.
Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away.”
‘Disgrace is his lot’; one of the consequences of his sexual sin. Disgrace – how he perceives that others might see him.
‘His shame’ – this is how he perceives himself.
Shame – the painful feeling of humiliation caused by recognizing one’s own foolish behavior.
‘Will never be wiped away’.
HSCB – never be removed
NASB – not be blotted out
NLT – never be erased
*Why so extreme? One reason is this:
I Corinthians 6:18b
“He who sins sexually, sins against his own body.”
Only the powerful, life altering intervention of Almighty God can reverse the shame and disgrace of sexual sin and give us a brand new identity in Christ
II Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Prayer
