One reason I am looking at prayer is because of a ‘church’ sign I saw before Easter that read: ‘Prayer works when we give it heart, hands and legs’.
I get the point but NO, NO, NO, NO, NO – that is NOT why prayer works. Prayer is far more than self motivation and inspiration. Prayer is talking to my Heavenly Father and asking Him to intervene. This is real and includes me asking God for things outside of my control and doing.
Matthew 7:7
“Ask and it will be given you…”
James 4:2
“You do not have because you do not ask God”.
Prayer is conversing with my Father in Heaven. When I ‘ask’, I am proposing a question. In many cases it is a ‘request’. God hears my ask and He is Faithful to answer.
Does He also meet my needs and surprise me with good gifts even when I don’t take time to ask? Yes, fathers do that, but they also enjoy the ‘ask’.
Matthew 7:11
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ‘ask’ Him!”
Questions:
– Do I ask specifically? Do I take time to write down my requests? Do I record how God answers?
