James 4:3

“And if you ask, you won’t receive it for you’re asking with corrupt motives, seeking only to fulfill your own selfish desires.”

Quick review of my prayer list shows some ‘personal desires’. Are these requests:

– others centered? 

– God centered? 

– self centered? 

Jeremiah 17:9

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?”

Wow. This is a humbling passage. My own heart deceives me. I don’t even know it! 

Deceive – cause someone to believe something that is not true, typically in order to gain a personal advantage.

What I need is a pure heart. This is a God centered and others centered request.  

Psalm 51:10

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”

Question:  Are your typical prayer requests  – Others centered? God Centered? Self centered?
