‘Time and Place to Pray’

Yes to ‘pray continually’ from I Thessalonians 5:17, but what does the example of Jesus show me regarding a time and place to pray?

Luke 22:39

“And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.”

*It’s now near the end and yet Jesus still walks to the place where he usually goes to pray. The disciples knew his pattern (including Judas) . Jesus had a ‘go to’ place where he went to meet with His Father.

Mark 1:35

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

*When did Jesus typically travel to his ‘go to’ place? It was often early in the morning before people and things got going. He chose to start his day by investing time with His Father.

Jesus modeled this for me, the discipline of a ‘time and a place’ to meet with God.

For me, in this season, it’s in my kitchen early in the morning to spend time with God in prayer and then in meditating on His Word.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the model of Jesus.  Please protect my time alone with You each morning so that I might know You better and follow You closer. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  1. Always good advice. Finding a deliberate time and specific place helps to create a discipline.
