‘Location, Location, Location’
Where do you live? The Greek word “μένω meno” may be translated abide, dwell, or remain. For decades, I have sought to be a faithful husband and loving father. I was continually searching the Scriptures for insights and listening to experienced mentors.
After a painful year, when I discovered that despite my best efforts I had wounded my family, those who are closest to me, I sought God with the help of brothers in Christ and therapists. Through that process God made me know that He loved me just as I am.
The verse which the Spirit illuminated to me was John 15:9, “As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. abide in My love.” I saw that because of what Jesus did on the cross, I am adopted, loved, and well-pleasing to my Heavenly Father.
The last four words of the verse are, “Abide in My love.” The more I learn about this delightful mystery of abiding, the better fruit I see being formed in my relationships with God and my family. I love God, His Word, and His presence as never before.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:4)
“Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples.’” (John 8:31)
May God make each of us dads to know that we are loved just as we are and teach us how to remain in His love! What a difference it will make with those we love at home!
