Proverbs 7:1-3
“My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.”
It is critical to guard or protect godly counsel and instruction. Keep them visible. Never forget these teachings. The Hebrew family already was charged to do this with God’s Law by posting it on their doorways…
Deuteronomy 6:9
“You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Treat these teachings as ‘the apple of your eye’.
OT writers would use this idiom to indicate ‘value’.The phrase comes from a Hebrew expression that literally means ‘little man of the eye.’ It refers to the tiny reflection that you can see in other people’s pupils. To be the apple of someone’s eye means that this is what you are focused on.
I must be intentional to guard and remember and keep visible godly counsel and teaching because of how much I value it.
Question: How do you keep godly counsel and instruction visible?
