II Samuel 12:1
“The Lord sent Nathan to David.”
The story is not over, for “God is not mocked. A man reaps what he sows…”Galatians 6:7
God sends a man that is already in David’s life, one of his trusted advisors who has previously given him wise counsel.
II Samuel 7:1-3
“Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.””
Earlier, it was Nathan that David shared his desire to build a great temple for the Lord. Nathan listened to David and affirmed him.
II Samuel 7:4
“But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan…”
But God spoke to Nathan the prophet and told him that it would not be David but rather his son who would build the temple.
David had previously listened to Nathan and now God sends this same Nathan to David with a different message.
