Luke 2:33-34
“And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them…”
Simeon’s prophecy was followed by a ‘blessing’, but along with it came some ‘speak the truth in love’.
Luke 2:34-35
“And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”
Some will believe and rise. Some will deny and fall. (or in layman terms, not all will be as excited about Jesus as those shepherds!)
Simeon, this godly man, shares hard to hear words with Mary but shares them with loving care and with gentleness. The road ahead would not be easy. It would not be easy for Jesus and thus – it would not be easy for her.
A godly man must learn how to communicate hard things with truth and love…
Ephesians 4:15
“Speak the truth in love…”
A godly man must learn to communicate with humility and gentleness….
Ephesians 4:2
“Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love”.
Simeon was a godly man speaking truth in love to the sweet mom who had just miraculously delivered and was now holding the Savior of the world.
Consider: How would you rate yourself on ‘speaking the truth in love’?
Pray: Ask God to help you to grow in humility, gentleness, patience, forbearance and love.
