I used to say, ‘This could never happen to me.’ Number 11 in Playing with Fire teaches us not to say this. 

Proverbs 7:25-26

“Don’t wander down her wayward path. For she has been the ruin of many; many men have been her victims.”

When I was a new Christian and a young man. I would hear about Christian men and immorality but I boasted – ‘this could never happen to me’. I began work in vocational ministry and my first two supervisors left their wives. Later in a new role, several of my key volunteer leaders committed adultery and left their wives. In this new century with Iron Sharpens Iron, my work has been with pastors and church leaders and as you might imagine – the list continues to grow. 

v 26 “She has been the ruin of many; many men have been her victims.”
‭I no longer say, ‘This could never happen to me’. Of course it could. It has already happened to friends as well as mentors who poured their life into me. I must walk with God and submit to the Lordship of Christ every day and take every precaution if I am not to be among ‘the many’.
