Joshua 1:6,7,9
v 6 “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them…”
v 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you…”
v 9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous…”
Joshua will need two things to lead this group – strength and courage. In fact, this is what every man needs to lead his own group whether it is:
– a family of four
– a church group of 12
– a business of 50
– a nation of one million
Strength of character and the courage of conviction is what a godly man needs to effectively lead others. Note that even before Almighty God gave this charge/command to Joshua – his mentor, Moses, had told him the same thing…
Deuteronomy 31:7
“Then Moses called for Joshua, and as all Israel watched, he said to him, “Be strong and courageous! For you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors he would give them.”
Godly Leadership begins with Strength and Courage!
Brian, this series on Moses to Joshua is spiritual fire for men today. Here we see a 3-fold admonition to be courageous. It’s that important that God had Moses repeat it 3 times! Courage is NOT being completely without fear, it’s forging ahead and doing the thing even though you’re afraid! My prayer is that all Christian men will see that as each of our times of challenge arrives like a Goliath in front of us!
