II Timothy 2:2

“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

What did Timothy hear and where did Timothy hear it? 

Looks like Timothy was ‘with Paul’ for about fifteen years. He just did not go to his Bible Study group on Wednesday and attend church service on Sunday mornings with Paul. He lived his life alongside Paul. He heard him over and over and over in the formal settings and in the informal settings. 

He saw and heard Paul share the Gospel.  He saw and heard Paul debate false teachers. He saw and heard Paul disciple men. He saw and heard how he planted churches.  

Throughout many cities (Acts 16-20); Timothy lived, worked and ministered alongside Paul. There was no published curriculum. This was ‘follow me as I follow Christ’. 

This was relational discipleship and spiritual reproduction. This is what Paul was referencing.
