‘Children Obey’

Ephesians 6:1 states… “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Children obeying parents is not a new thought, but the Apostle Paul’s directive is much more than that. Much more!

The HCSB translation nails this verse; “Children, obey your parents as you would the Lord, because this is right.”

The directive now takes on a completely new meaning for Christian parents. They are to teach and train their own children to obey God – and the first step in that process is to obey dad and mom.

This directive now comes alive as parents can see the importance of a right attitude in their child’s obedience. It’s much more than obeying, it is the curbing of the child’s attitude that accompanies the obeying.

Obeying your parents in the Lord is always a ‘heart matter’, as it will be when that child soon becomes an adult. The yielding of the will can and must begin very early for parents who aspire for their children to someday faithfully obey the Lord.
