Spiritual Leadership: ‘Revolt Against God’

Numbers 16:1-2 reads: “Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men. And they rose up against Moses, with a number of the people of Israel, 250 leaders of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men.”

Korah and the boys were not happy with Moses and his decisions. They chose and mobilized a large group of well known ‘leaders’ to revolt against Moses.

*What was the basis of their rebellion? Numbers 16:3 tells us: “They came together against Moses and Aaron and told them, “You have gone too far! Everyone in the entire community is holy, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?”

This group of well known leaders were correct – that every Israelite was ‘holy’ and all were set apart as ‘God’s People’.

What they missed is that God appointed Moses. He did not appoint or exalt himself. Thus their revolt was not against Moses but against God.

Do I really believe that my spiritual leadership was ‘appointed by God’?
