‘Jesus in the Old Testament’

Scripture does not reveal to us if Joseph knew the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14;

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

‭‭We also don’t know if he was aware of Micah 5:2;

“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from old, from ancient days.”

We can be sure he knew the account of the exodus from Egypt and was familiar with God’s command to consecrate the first born male to the Lord.

Exodus 13:12

“You must present all the firstborn sons to the Lord, for they belong to him.”

So Joseph brings Mary and the baby to the Temple and it is there that God brings them face to face with Simeon, who declares the prophecy of Isaiah;

Luke 2:30-32

‭‭ “For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
