Church Leadership is all about being an example….
I Peter 5:1-3
‘To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder…. Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care…. not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock’
Peter, like the Apostle Paul, is urging church leaders to give the people that they shepherd a visible example that they can easily follow.
This ‘highly relational’ style of ministry is exactly what Jesus modeled in his up close and personal ministry to the twelve and with them to the seventy. The contrast to this of course were the Pharisees who separated themselves from the people and burdened them with law after law that they must follow.
Jesus summarized the law into two commands and said ‘follow me’.
QUESTION: Is there a leader in your church that is an example to you?
