II Samuel 11:5

“The woman conceived and sent word to inform David: “I am pregnant.””

This wasn’t what the king had planned to happen. His momentary lust and selfish actions had significant consequences. 

This wasn’t a one sided relationship because there was no relationship. It was a ‘power grab’. Note that Bathsheba ‘sent word’ to David for she had no opportunity to ever speak with him. 

God’s prophet, Nathan, described it this way…

II Samuel 12:4

“He took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man.”

Sin has consequences. It causes separation from God and brings chaos into the lives of people.
