II Samuel 11:6-8
“So David sent word to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. When Uriah came to him, David asked how Joab was doing and how the men were doing and how the war was going. Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” And Uriah went out of the king’s house, and there followed him a present from the king.”
You just sense David saying ‘I got this’ and then using his power to manipulate.
He actually has the nerve to ask Uriah;
– how’s Joab doing?
– how are the men doing?
– how’s the war going?
He tops off his lack of sincerity and integrity by sending a gift to Uriah as he instructs him to head home to be with his wife.
David’s confidence right now is very high that he has covered his sin. He is not only unrepentant but is patting himself on the back for his brilliant scheme. 😞
