‘A Woman Scorned’

Genesis 39:13-15

“When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.””

Joseph was prepared and did exactly the right thing. He ran. Run Joseph, run. But noble actions that honor God do not always and immediately result in positive outcomes.

In this case, the wayward wife – the adulterous, manipulative woman was ‘scorned’. Joseph is about to realize that ‘hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned’. Note that a righteous and surrendered life will always honor God – but may still provoke the wrath of others.
