Genesis 41:50-52

“Before the years of famine came, Joseph had two sons…

Joseph called the name of the first-born Manasseh, “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.” The name of the second he called Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.””

The faith of Joseph remains strong and he honors God in the naming of his children. 

Though he is deeply wounded by the terrible actions of his own family members, this new life has given him grace to at least temporarily set aside the bitterness of their evil deeds. 

His second son honors God with his new life in Egypt and the enormous position of influence that God has graciously granted him. 

Note that Joseph does not yet know that his past will soon intersect with his new life in Egypt – and that God had planned this all along.
