Joshua 6:12-13 “Now Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord. The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew the trumpets; and the armed men went before them and the rear guard came after the ark of the Lord, while they continued to blow the trumpets.”
So although the men were silent, and there was no ‘battle cry’, there were the horns.
The ‘ark of the covenant’ was central in the formation and central in the blowing of the horns. Warriors marched before and after the ark. The ram’s horn or shofar was often used to signal a sacred assembly or in this case – a sacred procession.
Again, this was faith over force. The ‘men of war’ did not blow the horns. Note that it was only the priests who blew the horns. The blowing of the horns was not the sound of battle but rather the sound of worship.
Where do you need to proceed by faith instead of force?
