Joshua 6:10 “But Joshua commanded the men, saying, “You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard nor let a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout!””
Day One -they were in formation and circling the city, but in utter silence. There would be the sound of the men marching, some in front of the ark and others behind it, but no other sounds. There was utter silence.
This ‘silence’ was counter intuitive and forced these ‘men of war’ to restrain themselves, to follow the instructions of Joshua and to trust the Lord.
To the occupants of Jericho, the silence was deafening. They were already fearful. The coming days would clearly heighten this fear.
Are you willing to follow the Lord and be silent when directed?
