This ‘new family’ has a ‘new kind of love and affection’…
Romans 12:10
“Love one another with brotherly affection”
II Peter 1:5-7
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with…. brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”
Hebrews 13:1
“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.”
I Thessalonians 4:9
“About brotherly love: You don’t need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.”
This ‘new family’ must be characterized by the ‘new commandment’…
John 13:34-35
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Similar to Galatians 6, this new kind of love is strategic. This new kind of love and affection communicates to a watching world to whom we have pledged our allegiance and to whom we are following together.
Prayer.
Heavenly Father, Help me today to follow Jesus’ example and to represent him well to a world that needs love. In Jesus Name, Amen.
