Genesis 41:1
“After two whole years, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing by the Nile…”
The cupbearer certainly did ‘forget’ him (40:23). It was two whole years (ESV); “two full years” (NIV); “at the end of two full years” (NASB)
Two full years might not be a long time in your sixties but it is a very long time to be ‘forgotten’ for a young man in his late twenties.
Joseph was 17 years old when he had his own dream of success (37:2) and then his brothers sold him into slavery. He would be 30 years old when Pharaoh put him in charge (41:46).
But in his late 20’s he was thrown into prison and forgotten for something he absolutely did not do. Was God still in control? Yes. Romans 8:28 remains true both then and now.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
