Joshua 6:2  “The Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty warriors.”

This is truly a fortified city. The walls were strong, the gates were sealed and Israel had no weapons to break down walls or gates. 

It was clearly an impossible task – and yet God states ever so matter of factly; ‘See, I have given Jericho into your hand’. 

It was once again a time for Joshua to trust God and to ‘be strong and courageous’ (1:6-9). He had already led the people of God across the Jordan at flood stage (3:15-17) and that was also impossible. But God had made a way. Now that they were in the land, it was time to ‘occupy the land’. Jericho was just the next step.  What happens here would prepare Joshua and the people of God for all that would follow.
